Welcome to St. John's
- Divine Service
Most people have far more than they need, but there’s still a sense that we don’t have enough. We buy more and more things but are never truly satisfied. Social media helps us stay in touch with anyone at any time, but we’re still hungry for deep human connection. We’re presented with all kinds of ideas every day, but so many of them are cheap and pointless.
At St. John’s, we cultivate a life of true abundance through our Savior, Jesus, who said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). The Christian life is one where God gives us all we need and more, and he remakes our hearts to enjoy it to the full. We gather in church services to receive God’s forgiveness and life, putting time and wealth into making those experiences second to none. We explore the richness of God’s word at all ages through education. And we reach out to our communities with open arms and homes, generously inviting others into an abundant life through Jesus Christ.
Pastor Patrick Ernst was trained at Bethany Lutheran College and Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary (Mankato, Minnesota). Before coming to St. John’s, he completed his pastoral vicarage at Faith Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas.
I am Pastor Ernst, the pastor of St. John’s since 2019. In John 10, Jesus says about himself, “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11). Did you know that “pastor” is the Latin word for “shepherd”? As a pastor, my role is to be a representative of Christ among the people. I’m not up to the task—believe me, I have as much of a need for God’s forgiveness and grace as you!—but Jesus is the one doing the work. My job is to speak his word to his people.
